England Hockey have just released eleven new FREE Level 1 umpire training dates in August and September ahead of the 2026/2027 season. The new season is scheduled to start on Saturday 19 September.

In order for us all to play, HAC Hockey Club need to provide qualified umpires for home fixtures. Each Team has a full set of cards, whistles, and radios. So we don't have to self umpire our own games, we have a swaps system with THD Hockey Club where we officiate for each other at JAGS. So you umpire the game before or after you play.

The qualification level depends on which League Division, so to ensure HAC (and THD) are providing the correct level of umpire for the London Hockey League, EVERY player need some form of umpire training.

If we don't, we will potentially face league sanctions (replay matches, points deductions and/or fines).

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?

Great question! Everyone playing in the upcoming season should:

1. Take the Online Rules Test to get a certificate (30 min investment)
2. Sign up to a Level 1 Umpire course. In the evening, 2 hours, and interactive.

By us all doing the above, it gives every Team maximum flexibility to provide correctly qualifies umpires.
